Movie: The Pursuit of Happiness
Review by Kevin Xalvis (xalviss)
Cast: Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Dan Castellaneta, and Thandie Newton
Director: Gabriele Muccino
The Pursuit of Happyness is based on the 1980s Greed Decade rags to riches life story of homeless guy turned stock broker multi-millionaire Chris Gardner, or at least the parts of his life that he and the filmmaker, Gabriele Muccino, choose to share with us. Will Smith as Gardner is a San Francisco. A struggling salesman who spends his days trying to sell expensive, unnecessary medical equipment to doctors who don't need it. When he randomly runs into a Street trader who informs him all one needs to do his job is be good with people and numbers, Chris decides to pursue a coveted internship at a brokerage; unfortunately, the job is unpaid, which means that he will have to support himself and his son Christopher (Jaden Christopher Syre Smith) without any promise of a paying job in the future.
Will Smith performance OMG Awesome love this man’s performance from ALI. He wisely leaves a lot of his standard acting techniques behind and plays Gardner as subtly as he should, rarely flashing that trademark smile or infectious laugh that could have sunk this character bring in to lively. He naturally has chemistry with his son, the talented Jr Smith, that can't be faked. I love this father & son relationship both performances are up to core of this movie. Extraordinary screen play brings the real gardener story in to live again. Hence forth this is not a vikraman/Rajinikanth Tamil movie they end the story when he got a job that’s nice. Nice movie to watch.
